Forest Pintor Shirt (Marigold & Indigo)

$500.00
sold out

This Pintor Shirt is made with a 100% hand-woven organic cotton fabric naturally dyed using wild marigold & indigo in the communities of San Sebastián Rio de Hondo, Oaxaca. The fabric color will vary due to the natural dyes.

We’re very excited to be working with @khadioaxaca, a collective of artisans and other collaborators who live in the municipality of San Sebastian Rio Hondo and nearby villages in the Southern Sierra of Oaxaca and Santa Catarina Mechoacan on the Costa Chica (southern coastal region of the state of Oaxaca). Each community specializes in a different process of making the fabrics: from farming their own cotton, spinning it into thread, and naturally dyeing it prior to weaving the fabrics.

At Khadi Oaxaca, artisans produce chemical free textiles from the stage of cotton cultivation through dyeing the fabrics. The wild marigold (Pericon) is harvested in the region during the summer. It is used fresh and gives a bright yellow color. Indigo, grown and transformed into a dyeing powder in the Isthmus of Oaxaca, is used to dye our thread blue. In this case, the textile was given a Pericon bath followed by an indigo bath to achieve the subtle streaks of yellow and green hues throughout the fabric.
